Welcome to 1824 Oakmont Circle located in Louisville, TN.

This is a remarkable, architecturally significant home, built in 1989-1990 as a summer residence by a New Orleans Architect for his personal use. Best described as an updated reproduction of an Appalachian farm cottage, indigenous to rural East Tennessee, casual observer soften assume the house to be 75-100 years old, predations all surrounding structures. Sited on a ridge cul-de-sac overlooking a modest subdivision, Chilhowee Mountain and the Appalachian Trail are visible on clear days, to the rear of the house is natural woodlands. The house appears as a 1 1/2 story white clapboard with classical four column open porch on a raised brick foundation. it is roofed with traditional 5 crimp standing seam galvanized metal-painted silver. The house is seriously understated and subtle.

Front door opens to a double parlor design separated by a pair of oversized doors. The view is right through the house to French doors with side lights in the main living room. Through a door to the left is the service area with kitchen, pantry, laundry, powder room, and stairs up and down. Opposite is a bedroom with fireplace that has a screened porch outside the French doors. The porch is fitted with Caribbean style wood jalouise shutters. Off the bedroom is a dressing/bath complex with three closets, separate bath with shower, and Koehler "Tea for Two" soaking whirlpool tub.

Upstairs are two modest bedrooms off a hall, each with a private bath. A total of five closets ( One being cedar lined) and substantial attic are also upstairs. Downstairs a "winder" stair accesses an oversized two car garage with heat and air conditioned, with ample storage and workbench. Also, downstairs is a spacious one bedroom apartment with separate entrance off a covered columned galley. The apartment has a bedroom, large walk-in closet and spacious basic bath.  Also included is a small fully equipped kitchen and laundry.

The main floor of the house has 10ft ceilings and 8ft doors. The living room/parlor configuration is floored with Tennessee Red Oak. Bedroom are wall to wall carpet. Kitchen and service area are floored with cork tile. All millwork i.e. Doors, crown, base, bookshelves etc are of Tennessee Poplar and painted with Benjamin Moore Impervo oil based enamel. The house does not contain a formal dining room, meals can be served in the spacious kitchen at a 3x5 ft farm table, or formally in the front parlor when configured for dinning. The house is a homage to 19th Century Southern Appalachian Folk Architecture in both site and materials. A potential owner should have an appreciation or at least awareness of this fact.
